Individual confesses to sex offences involving boys at youth camp
A person who spiked candy with tranquilliser and provided them to children at a summer camp in the area has admitted sexual offenses against two boys both nine and ten years old.
The defendant was taken into custody after eight children and a grown-up experienced illness at Stathern Lodge in July.
The senior citizen, from the Nottinghamshire area, pleaded guilty to a total of 17 charges when he stood at the judicial center on the end of the week.
However, he denied a single sexual charge he was charged with, which was against a young boy.
The accused was kept in jail ahead of a additional proceeding on November 28th.
'Treat game'
Mary Prior KC, prosecuting, described Ruben's offending to the legal proceedings.
She stated his targets were disadvantaged youngsters who were attending a youth camp which he ran.
The defendant engaged in a "treat game" with the youngsters, Mrs Prior explained, in which he would go into the children's bedrooms when they were preparing to sleep and request they to consume candy "rapidly".
She informed the proceedings the defendant had conducted this practice with the boys "repeatedly", and youngsters had earlier experienced illness the following morning.
She stated Ruben had been successful in rationalizing this for many years as the children being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepchild had suspicions in recently.
Mrs Prior KC added: "In the summer" his family member had concerns about the situation, for good reason.
"They resolved" to have a look in the individual's items."
Mrs Prior KC explained items including lubricant, ointment and injection devices were located, and his stepchild contacted the police about his concerns.
She explained Ruben proceeded to engage in the "sweet game" with six boys that night - Saturday 26 July - and they were all sick the next day.
"Law enforcement" had not responded by that time," she continued.
The oversight body, the police conduct office, earlier informed that it was examining Leicestershire Police's handling of the incident.
The prosecutor explained the youngsters were unable to walk properly due to their sickness, so the stepson contacted the law enforcement a second time.
She stated Ruben then played the "sweet game" in a room of five youngsters.
